Our first weekend at the house.

THE HOUSE HUNT

I kid you not, my husband, Joseph, and I have been looking for a home up in Upstate New York for 10 years - yes 10 years! And I will say, I am quite grateful we took our time, and really explored the areas we were thinking of. We waffled between a commuter town off the Metro North Railway, and a more remote home in the Catskills Region of New York. So while we saw prices jump up during the pandemic, we also saw the acceptance of remote work as a new norm, and with the latter we felt more comfortable choosing a home that was tucked into the Catskills. It was also what we wanted most - to live in the woods!

We spent years looking at the various styles of architecture available on the market - Ranches, Country Homes, Log Homes and Chalets. We came to realize that after being in a New York City loft for nearly 20 years, we could not bring ourselves to have ceilings that were low. We had gotten so used to having 11-foot high ceilings in our loft, that the thought of anything lower would make us feel claustrophobic. So when we happened upon this Southern Catskills Chalet with vaulted ceilings and skylights throughout, and we knew this was the one.

The Living Room

THE INTERIOR

Upon entering the home you are greeted by a light filled room with vaulted ceilings stretching up to 11-feet high. Generous windows and sliding glass doors to a large front deck bring the outdoors in, while also giving easy access to the well maintained landscaping surrounding the home.

The first floor is host to an expansive living area that includes the Dining Room and Kitchen, as well as a Bathroom that is a kind of “Jack & Jill” between the Living Area and Primary Bedroom. Within the 25-foot long Primary Bedroom there is an oversized jacuzzi tub (for at least two people) that sits under a large skylight with windows on two sides - like you’re bathing in the woods. There is an additional Second Bedroom off the Living Area that is cozy & simple.

Downstairs there is a fully finished basement that appears to have hosted many a party, with a large Wet Bar and Recording Studio in the main space. Off of that there is a Small Bedroom, a Full Bathroom, a Vinyl Storage Room, a Wash Room with washer & dryer, as well as Mechanical Room, and plenty of closet storage throughout.

Check out the slide show below of these spaces! As you can imagine, I am itching to design every square inch into an elevated retreat in the woods.

Many have already voted that they want us to keep the jacuzzi tub, and my husband wants to vault the ceiling throughout the first floor. What are your thoughts? What do you like and dislike?

Let me know what you think in the comments below!

xoxo
